Amsterdam the city of canals and narrow houses. Amsterdam was definitely one of my favourite cities in Europe and would highly recommend. It was also one of the safest cities I went to, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. However it was also one of the most expensive more than Paris. If you are planning a trip to Amsterdam here are my best itinerary and tips:

Accomodation:
Hotels in Amsterdam can be crazy expensive especially if you want to be in the center. I tried a hotel both near and in the center. The one outside the center was cheaper, but considering the tram prices and time wasted, it wasn't worth it.. The best hotel in the center I found for the most affordable price is Hotel Avenue. Hotel avenue is a 3 star hotel located right in the center, prices start at around 140usd per night. The hotel is modern and clean, definitely worth it considering the prices of other hotels in the city center.

Activities:
1) Anne Frank's House. Anne Frank's house, which was now turned into a Jewish musuem is open to public. The museum is at the price of $20usd per person. However keep in mind Amsterdam is a busy city and tickets sell out fast. I would recommend booking at least a month in advance
2)Have a wonder around the canals. either by foot, bike or even boat. There are so many ways to explore the canals. If you want to do it by bike keep in mind the city is full of bike and it might be a bit tricky, I did not give it a go I was a bit too sacred. However I would highly recommend visiting by boat. I personally did a boat tour during sunset, the tour included drinks, cheese and live music. It was defintely a great experience. The tour was around $35usd per person.

3) Visit the red light district. I don't have much to say about this activity expect that it is a must do in Amsterdam and is free of charge .
4) If you are in Amsterdam for more than a day I would highly recommend a tour in the hinterland. The tour takes around 3.5 hours. It starts with a pick-up in Amsterdam, followed by a guided bike tour in the countryside. You'll also visit a Dutch farmhouse and make a stop at Vondelpark. The tour is only 50usd per person.
4)Adam's lookout and swing. Adam's lookout is a sightseeing point in a,mstersam in one of the tallest building of Amsterdam. It is up north the canals. You have to take a ferry to get there howver ferries are free and run every 5 minutes. at Adam lookout you can also have a swing above the city if you are not scared of height. Tickets have to be purchased directly on their website for 16usd and an extra 7usd for the swing.

I would definitely recommend booking online to skip the lines.
5)One of the most iconic activity of Amsterdam are obvisously the coffee shops. Coffee shops prices for a joint vary from 3euro to 15 euros. Some of the best coffee shops I have visited included greenhouse and Prix d'amis. Prix d'amis was my favourite as it is the biggest and their also offer a range of food options. Keep in mind a new law was implemented and you are now only allowed to smoke in coffee shops. Smoking in the street is prohibited.
6) Van Gogh Museum. Another great museum in Amsterdam is the Vang Gogh museum. The tour will take you about 2h30. I personally booked a tour where you can skip the line for $95usd as it can get really busy.
Tips: -To get from the airport to the city I would highly recommend the train which only cost 5.40euros and only take about 20mins.
-If you are going to use the tram get a pass wither daily, weekly or forntighly as a way one ticket is very expensive.
